Sustainable school travel service launched
As a by product of a new sustainable school travel service launched in Devon, child casualty maps for more than 25,000 schools across the country are now available free of charge.
Devon’s Road Safety and Travel Awareness Team launched the new service following the loss of four sustainable school travel advisors.
The service has been developed by Figurehead Intelligence to enable continued support to all of Devon’s schools - despite a significantly reduced budget and only one part time sustainable school travel coordinator.
Part of this comprehensive service is a bespoke website for Devon’s schools enabling them to download personalised reports on their travel patterns and transport choices, their carbon footprint, how their travel patterns have changed over the years and what opportunities exist for changes in choice of mode.
In addition to providing every school with its own information and allowing them to benchmark with comparable schools, Figurehead Intelligence also provides the Devon team with a comprehensive annualised report on school travel patterns across the county.
Matthew Edmunds, managing director of Figurehead Intelligence, said: “When Devon approached us there was a clear brief to deliver a service on a shoestring that still provided high quality, relevant and useable information to schools who were already used to receiving a first class service from the school travel team.”
“Working with that team we have delivered a product that can reach more people than before, that is of the professional standard that schools expect and which is going to deliver considerable efficiency savings from year one onwards.”
Jeremy Phillips, operations and partnership programme manager for the Devon team, added: “Figurehead’s response to our need to provide schools with additional information on child road casualties within their catchment area has been particularly impressive.
“Shortly after we asked for child casualty maps Figurehead produced them for more than 25,000 schools throughout the country, all of which are now available free to any school by visiting: www.schooltravelfacts.co.uk.”
