Cornwall launches cartoon campaign for bikers
Mugs bearing a road safety illustration are being distributed to ‘biker-friendly’ cafes and shops in Cornwall, as part of a motorcycle awareness campaign delivered by Cornwall County Council.
A cartoon strip running around the mugs depicts an unwary rider confronted with an agricultural vehicle on a bend.
The campaign launch coincided with the Easter holiday weekend, traditionally the start of the motorcycle ‘season’, when many riders get on their bikes for the first time after winter.
The cartoon message will also appear on pump nozzles at 18 forecourt sites throughout the summer. Thousands of ‘Think Bike’ stickers are also being given away with Bike and Performance Bike magazines in the south west.
John Macneill, Cornwall council project co-ordinator, said: “This campaign follows on from last year’s highly successful ‘Think Biker’ campaign which gained national recognition for featuring real, local bikers. While we must continue to remind people to think bike, it is vital that we riders also take extra care to look out for ourselves.”
