Teams promote ‘Big Night Out’ message
12 road safety teams are participating in the latest phase of the Morning After drink drive campaign, which asks people not to drive after a ‘Big night out’.
The ‘Morning After’ drink drive website, which has been running for several years, provides information about how long it takes for alcohol to pass through the body.
The latest phase of the campaign – ‘Big Night Out’ – aims to help people avoid a drink drive conviction, or worse still, having a crash and causing casualties, the morning after a heavy night of drinking.
It targets predominantly young people who do the right thing on the night by not driving, but then get behind the wheel the following morning without considering that they are very probably still way over the drink drive limit.
‘Big Night Out’ is running during March/April 2013.
David Frost, from the Morning After campaign, said: “On a night out it’s easy to completely lose track of the amount you’re drinking - and those who go on to drink in a club until the early hours are potentially taking in huge volumes of alcohol that certainly won’t clear from the body by the following morning.
“Through ‘Big night out’ we’re trying to raise awareness of this issue and encourage young people to make arrangements so that they don’t have to drive the day after heavy drinking, as well as on the night itself.”
The councils that are participating in the campaign are: Bath & North East Somerset; Bristol City; Cambridgeshire County; East Riding; North East Lincolnshire; North Lincolnshire; North Somerset; Peterborough City; Southend-On-Sea Borough; South Gloucestershire; Swindon Borough; and Windsor and Maidenhead.
