Colas renews Knowledge Centre sponsorship
Colas has extended its financial support for the Road Safety Knowledge Centre into a fourth consecutive year.
The sponsorship extension means that Colas has supported the Knowledge Centre for all but a few months since it launched in September 2010.
The Knowledge Centre is owned and managed by Road Safety GB and was developed with funding provided by the DFT. It comprises an online library of road safety related information and expertise, primarily from UK-based road safety organisations. Information within the Knowledge Centre is available free of charge to anyone who registers to become a subscriber.
The Knowledge Centre has more than 4,000 individual subscribers and 469 member organisations, and comprises more than 2,500 listings broken down by road safety theme or user group (drink driving, cycling, speed, pedestrians etc).
Colas is an ambitious, award-winning business, delivering sustainable solutions for the design, building and maintenance of the UK's transport infrastructure. Its unrivalled expertise is based on its long history and the strength derived from being part of the world-leading international Colas Group.
Managing occupational road risk is an established priority for Colas, which launched its own award-winning in-house road safety campaign in 2002. ‘SAID’ (Safer Attitudes In Driving) is designed to improve the safety of its employees on the road, and to heighten their awareness of circumstances they can control to prevent vehicle incidents. The success of SAID is reflected in the halving of the company’s vehicle collision incident frequency rate over the dozen years since the initiative was launched.
At the heart of SAID is a dedicated and passionate team of in-house driving representatives (local road safety coordinators), fully endorsed by the Colas Board, who train and support their colleagues and are becoming increasingly involved with road safety initiatives in the wider community.
Lee Rushbrooke, Colas chief executive, said: “Colas is extremely proud to be the sole sponsor of the Road Safety Knowledge Centre and is delighted to maintain its close association with Road Safety GB.
“We hope that with our own longstanding SAID initiative, Colas is providing a model to inspire other organisations to promote road safety for the benefit of everyone.”
Honor Byford, chair of Road Safety GB, said: “The Knowledge Centre is a vital resource which is widely and regularly used by road safety professionals here in the UK and further afield.
“The financial support provided by Colas has been crucial to the ongoing development of the Knowledge Centre, and we are delighted that it is to be extended into a fourth consecutive year.
“We greatly appreciate the support provided by Colas and the relationship between our two organisations is highly successful and very much valued by us.”
