CEMEX wins occupational road risk award

Friday 23rd May 2014

CEMEX UK has lifted RoSPA’s MORR Trophy at the charity’s 2014 Occupational Health and Safety Awards.

The MORR Trophy, which is presented as part of the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards, recognises the organisation which "demonstrates the most effective and cohesive programme for the management of occupational road risk (MORR)".

The presentation was made to Peter Ward, driver trainer at CEMEX UK Operations Limited – Logistics, at a ceremony in Birmingham on 14 May.

Dubai-based Tristar Transport and Cardiff-based Kier Services Facilities Management were both commended.

Kevin Clinton, RoSPA’s head of road safety, said: “The judges were impressed by CEMEX’s commitment to managing the risks to its drivers, but in particular by its continuing investment in new systems to protect other road users, especially cyclists.

“The manner in which CEMEX developed these safety improvements, researching the exact problems, trialling new solutions and evaluating their effectiveness, was equally impressive.

"But perhaps the most impressive aspect of CEMEX’s entry was the way it has worked extensively with many stakeholders, communicating key road safety messages and sharing the results of its trials so that other companies can benefit from them.”

Middlesex-based Tristar Worldwide Chauffeur Services has been announced as the winner of RoSPA’s MORR Technology Trophy in recognition of its dedication to using the latest technology to save the lives of those who drive for work. The firm will be presented with the award at a ceremony at ExCeL London on 17 June.
