JRSOs efforts recognised in North Lanarkshire
Pupils from three North Lanarkshire primary schools have been commended for their contribution to improving road safety through their work as Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs).
The team from St Stephen’s Primary School in Coatbridge took first prize in the JRSO Team of the Year competition, run by North Lanarkshire Council’s Safe and Sustainable Travel Team. The winning team received £100 of vouchers for their school, trophies and a certificate.
John Paul II Primary School in Viewpark were awarded second place with St Bernadette’s Primary School in Motherwell taking third.
Councillor Stephanie Griffin, vice convener of North Lanarkshire’s planning and transportation committee, said: “Our JRSOs work very hard throughout the year to raise awareness of the importance of road safety among their school community, and it’s wonderful to recognise their efforts through these awards.
“Their work helps give young children basic knowledge and skills to be safe on their journeys to and from school, as well as making parents aware of issues like safe parking near schools.”
