Local partnership to sponsor National Conference
SSRP joins Colas and AA DriveTech as sponsors of National Conference, which is this year hosted by Road Safety GB South East Region. The conference is being held at The Grand in Brighton, 25-26 November. More than 240 people have already registered to attend and the final number looks set to exceed the 250 who have attended for the past couple of years.
SSRP works to reduce road casualties across Sussex through a combination of the three ‘E’s - education, engineering and enforcement. The Partnership strives to build safer communities by sharing the responsibility and engaging with members of the public, whom it describes as “our greatest asset in the development a safer road environment”.
The Partnership includes, and is funded by, Sussex Police and the three local highway authorities, East and West Sussex County Councils and Brighton and Hove City Council. Other partners include the Fire and Rescue Services from West and East Sussex and the Highways Agency.
Road safety education plays a significant role in changing attitudes and behaviour among road users, and to this end the Partnership delivers road safety initiatives and offers advice for all road users including drivers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, cyclists, young people and horse riders.
Honor Byford, chair of Road Safety GB, said: "We are delighted that the SSRP has come forward to sponsor the National Conference this year.
“We strongly value the very real benefits we achieve by working in partnership with the police and other agencies. This is proven to be the most effective way to reduce collisions and casualties together with providing value for money for the taxpayer.
"Our National Conference is a key event for road safety professionals across the UK – a unique opportunity to network with, and learn from, colleagues.
"The income we receive from sponsorship, and from the exhibition which runs alongside the conference, enables us to subsidise the cost of attending for local authority road safety officers.
"The fact that, once again this year, the number of attendees will exceed 250 is due in no small measure to the financial support we receive from our sponsors and exhibitors. We are grateful to all of them for their ongoing support."
