Big step forward for Foundation Course
The course aims to provide participants with an overview of the knowledge and skills they need to effectively and safely deliver a road safety educational intervention. It covers the whole process from identifying a road safety issue, to developing an intervention and through to evaluation.
A total of 156 candidates have attended the Foundation course during 2014 with a pass rate of 68% based on those that have submitted their assignments. The pass rate is expected to increase significantly as more candidates submit their work.
Cheryl Evans, head of training at the Road Safety GB Academy, said: “There are huge benefits for the course to be accredited by City & Guilds.
“This recognition from the world leader in work-related qualifications sends a powerful message to employees and other stakeholders about our commitment to developing the skills and expertise of road safety practitioners.
“For candidates, accreditation provides assurance that the course meets recognised quality standards, and this additional recognition of their skills will increase motivation, confidence and commitment.”
One of the successful attendees, Su Guy, road safety education officer for the London Borough of Barnet, said: “This is great news. Thank you to all involved in achieving this. I thoroughly enjoyed the course, learnt so much and will be recommending it to many London borough officers.”
There are five Foundation Courses already scheduled for delivery during 2015. The Highways Agency has booked a closed course for 15 of its employees, and TfL has also booked a course for its employees and London-based road safety officers.
Road Safety GB South West Region has booked two courses, one in Devon and one in South Gloucestershire, and a further course will be held in Hertford.
