Car seat clinics mark Global Road Safety Week in Hull
To mark the third UN Global Road Safety Week (GRSW) 2015, Hull City Council is working in partnership with Good Egg Car Safety to organise a number of child car seat clinics between 5–9 May.
The focus for GRSW (4-10 May 2015) is child road safety. Using the slogan #SaveKidsLives, the UN Road Safety Collaboration campaign is seeking to highlight the plight of children on the world’s roads, and generate action to better ensure their safety.
Here in the UK, a comprehensive programme of activities and resources is being prepared by an alliance of road safety organisations headed by Road Safety GB.
The child car seat clinics are part of series taking place in Hull to raise awareness about the dangers of incorrectly fitted or inappropriate child car seats.
Figures from Good Egg Safety show that in Hull eight out of 10 car seats are “putting children in danger”, compared to seven out of 10 nationally. The Good Egg team has produced a video highlighting five of the most common car seat fitting errors.
Experts from Good Egg Safety will be on hand to provide advice on buying, choosing and fitting the right car seat as well as checking to make sure seats are fitted correctly.
Graham Hall, Hull City Council’s assistant highways, safety and transport manager, said: “Child safety is an issue that none of us can ignore. Keeping children safe inside a car should be a priority for any parent/carer or grandparent.
"These car seat clinics are a great way for everyone to get their child car seat checked for free and gain some really helpful advice."
Kat Furlong, Good Egg Safety manager, said: "Having your car seat checked is so important, even having the seat belt or harness a little too loose can greatly increase the risk of injury, or worse, to your child.
"Our experts can correct most errors on the day, and we will also show how to fit a car seat yourself, for complete peace of mind."
