Discussion forums scheduled for Global Road Safety Week
Road Safety GB has unveiled plans for a programme of online discussion forums about child road safety issues, to be held during Global Road Safety Week 2015 (GRSW).
The focus for GRSW (4-10 May) is child road safety. Using the slogan #SaveKidsLives, the UN Road Safety Collaboration campaign is seeking to highlight the plight of children on the world’s roads, and generate action to better ensure their safety.
Here in the UK, a comprehensive programme of activities and resources* is being prepared by an alliance of road safety organisations headed by Road Safety GB.
The discussion forums will be hosted on the Road Safety GB website and facilitated by road safety practitioners with particular expertise and experience relating to child road safety.
The full programme is as follows:
Tues 5 May Children and cycling
Weds 6 May Setting up and running a Junior Road Safety Officer scheme
Thurs 7 May In-car safety for children
Fri 8 May Children as pedestrians
All of the forums will take place between 12.00 – 1.00pm and will be open to everyone, with no requirement to login or pre-book.
People will be able to submit questions - either in advance or during the forum - for the facilitators to answer in ‘real time’.
The forums are intended for anyone here in the UK and other parts of the world with an interest in the topic for discussion.
The forums will be set up by Monday 27 April but in the meantime questions can be submitted by email, which will then be added to the relevant forum when it goes live.
The other UK resources to support GRSW 2015 comprise:
• Child road safety resources (activity sheets, maps etc)
• Resources for educators (simple guides to deliver road safety education)
• Database of practitioners with child road safety expertise
All are available free of charge.
