England rugby star named Honest Truth patron
Jack Nowell, England and Exeter Chief's rugby star, has been named the new patron of road safety initiative the Honest Truth, an education partnership between Devon and Cornwall Police, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and local authorities.

Calls for introduction of road tolls to reduce traffic congestion 
A paper from the Royal Academy of Engineering which looks into congestion in the UK has concluded that road tolls are the single best and most efficient way to tackle what it calls an "issue of national concern".

Novel lollipop campaign to "start conversation" about pedestrian safety
Road safety officers in Ireland are hoping a campaign which will see festive party goers given lollipops as they head home from a night out will "start a conversation" about the need to arrange transport home in advance and in turn, improve pedestrian safety.

'Gay-themed' traffic lights scrapped in Austrian city
The Austrian city of Linz is set to lose its 'gay-themed' pedestrian traffic lights, installed to celebrate the Eurovision Song Contest in May with the hope that they would attract attention and improve road safety, after opposition from the country's Freedom Party.

Data collected and analysed by the RAC Foundation has found that almost 2,400 council-maintained road bridges in Great Britain are not fit to carry the heaviest vehicles now seen on our roads.
