Delegate registration open for LRSC centenary conference

Monday 9th May 2016

Delegate registration is now open for a one-day conference in central London which will mark the centenary of the London Road Safety Council (LRSC).

The conference, ‘Safer cities: safer futures’, will be held on 24 January 2017 at the Guildhall in the City of London.

The agenda is currently under development and topics under consideration include cycling, pedestrians, shared space schemes, motorcycling, 20mph schemes, HGVs, driverless cars and vehicle safety technology. The intention is to touch on a wide range of topics, with presentations by academics and road safety professionals.

The conference is primarily intended for road safety and active travel professionals, and elected members with an interest in road safety issues. An exhibition will run alongside the event, with prices from £495 plus VAT.

The conference will be followed by an early evening reception which conference delegates are also invited to attend, which will include an address by James Cracknell, LRSC President (subject to confirmation).

Christine Fitzgerald, chair of the conference organising committee, said: “In January 2017 the London Road Safety Council (formerly London Accident Prevention Council) will celebrate its centenary.

“To mark the occasion we are organising a one-day conference to briefly look back over the past 100 years, but then more importantly look at the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead for road safety professionals working in cities across the UK.”

The delegate fee is £95 for attendees from the public/third sectors and academia, and £145 for others (both prices plus VAT). The maximum number of delegates the venue can accommodate is 200.

The event is being organised on behalf of the LRSC by Nick Rawlings and Sally Bartrum, who assist Road Safety GB with the organisation of the National Road Safety Conference.

For more information about the agenda or to express an interest in presenting a paper at the conference please contact Nick Rawlings.

For more information about delegate registration or exhibiting at the event please contact Sally Bartrum.

Both are available on 01379 650112.

I'm sure many events such as yours would be of great interest to many professional ADIs. However, these events seem to cater for Councils, organisations and others who can well afford to pay the attendance charges. As a sole trader, we would find it difficult to fund ourselves to participate in such prestigious events. Is there any way that the 'ordinary' ADI could be facilitated at these events. Finally, thanks for your excellent, informative and educational weekly reports.
