Search is on for next Young Driver Ambassador

Friday 12th May 2017

IAM RoadSmart has launched a new competition as the road safety charity looks for its next Younger Driver Ambassador.

The winner of the ‘Get in the Driving Seat’ competition will fulfil the role from September 2017 to July 2018, following in the footsteps of Eloise Peabody-Rolf.

The successful candidate will tour the country spreading safe driving and riding messages to schools, colleges and apprentice centres, working closely with the IAM’s 200+ local groups.

The role is fully salaried and comes with a company car and advanced driving support. IAM RoadSmart says it could be a ‘springboard to demonstrating the successful candidate’s potential to future employers’.

Applicants should submit a 500 word document explaining why they feel they should be the charity’s next Younger Driver Ambassador by 9 June. They also have the option of submitting a short video to support their application.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to IAM RoadSmart’s headquarters in Hertfordshire, to convince the judging panel of their capability for the role. The judging panel includes Nigel Mansell CBE and Sarah Sillars OBE, IAM RoadSmart president and chief executive officer respectively.

Sarah Sillars said: “We are looking for a special someone – they will need to be dynamic enough not to be afraid to challenge authority, but also able to fit neatly into an existing organisation set-up.

“This person will have an open remit to suggest what they would like to see in helping IAM RoadSmart reach and influence younger drivers. They are the ones most at risk and we are fully committed to helping new drivers as they begin their driving careers.”

Also on the judging panel are James Evans, founder of First Car, Shaun Cronin, IAM RoadSmart regional service delivery team manager and Eloise Peabody-Rolf, current IAM RoadSmart Younger Driver Ambassador.
