AA DriveTech to sponsor National Conference for third successive year

AA DriveTech has extended its sponsorship of the National Road Safety Conference into a third consecutive year.

The 2014 National Road Safety Conference will take place at The Grand Hotel in Brighton, 25-26 November, and is being hosted by the Road Safety GB South East Region.

All of the money raised through sponsorship is used to subsidise the cost of attending for Road Safety GB members, and to offset the cost of staging the event.

AA DriveTech is the UK’s leading provider of driver training, assessment, and driver awareness schemes and has three key divisions: DriverAware, FleetSafe and Commercial and Passenger Goods.

The DriverAware Division delivers driver awareness schemes, on behalf of several police forces, for motorists who have either been involved in a road traffic collision or committed a range of offences including exceeding the speed limit, using a mobile phone, jumping a level crossing or red light, or not wearing a seat belt. The business started delivering the nationwide Steer Clear Drink Driving Rehabilitation Schemes, in partnership with the London Probation Trust, in 2013.

DriverAware also runs national RIDE (Rider Intervention and Developing Experience) Schemes for motorcyclists who have been involved in a crash or committed an offence, and the London Cycle Safe Scheme for cyclists who have committed an offence.

The FleetSafe Division works to reduce occupational road risk, business costs and risks to drivers by significantly improving driver ABC – Attitude, Behaviour and Competence. FleetSafe’s approach is called ‘the journey’, a unified framework that manages all aspects of occupational road risk – company, fleet, vehicle and driver.

The Commercial and Passenger Vehicles Division is focused on fleet risk solutions for professional bus, coach and truck drivers including Driver CPC periodic training. This requires all commercial and passenger vehicle drivers to complete 35 hours of JAUPT-approved training over a five-year period.

As well as sponsoring the past two conferences, AA DriveTech has also made a valuable contribution to each event. In 2012, Edmund King, president of the AA, delivered a presentation titled ‘Two tribes’ in which he issued a plea for harmony between drivers and other road users such as cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists.

And last year in Harrogate Jim Kirkwood, managing director of AA Driving Services, was one of the panelists for the Question Time session during which a wide range of topics were discussed.

Honor Byford, chair of Road Safety GB, said: “We are absolutely delighted that AA DriveTech will once again be supporting our National Conference.

“The contributions we receive from AA DriveTech and our other main sponsors are vital to the success of the conference as they enable us to peg the delegate fee at a level that local authority road safety officers can afford.

“Our relationship with AA DriveTech is developing into a long-term alliance through which we are working together to help achieve our shared objectives of improving road safety and reducing road casualties.”

Jim Kirkwood, AA DriveTech MD, said “Our vision as a business is ‘working together to eliminate road death and serious injury’ and we know that the road safety professionals who attend this conference have the same ultimate ambition.

"As part of the AA, we’re delighted to support this event so that road safety innovations, knowledge and unique insights can be shared for the benefit of all.”
