Three Road Safety GB members are now equipped to deliver a new training course designed to help Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) develop their skills with regard to ‘client-centred learning (CCL)’.

Earlier this year the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) introduced a simpler three-grade Standards Check for instructors in order to help learners and their parents identify the best instructors.

Working in partnership with eDriving Solutions, Road Safety GB has developed a CCL course to help the UK’s 40,000 ADIs meet the requirements of the DVSA’s new grading structure.

The course is managed locally by Road Safety GB members, using ADIs from their area to help with delivery. Road Safety GB will ensure the course standards are maintained across the country.

The first three local authorities to complete the two-day ‘train the trainer’ course are Durham and North Yorkshire County Councils, and Nottingham City Council.

Alan Kennedy, Road Safety GB business and operations manager, said: “These three authorities are now equipped to manage and deliver the CCL course in their local area.

“The course is designed to ensure that the standard of driving instruction is raised in accordance with Road Safety GB’s charitable aim of improving road safety.

“It also offers the opportunity for Road Safety GB members to generate valuable income by delivering the course in their local area.

“We are now in the process of planning train the trainer courses for authorities in the South West of England during August.”

The course was successfully piloted earlier this year in partnership with Buckinghamshire’s road safety team. ADIs who attended the pilot course gave it excellent reviews.

Road safety teams requiring more information or wishing to register interest in becoming a course provider should contact Alan Kennedy by email.
