AXA Local Road Safety Index 2014: statement from Road Safety GB

12.00 | 18 December 2014 |

Statement from Honor Byford, chair of Road Safety GB, regarding the AXA Local Road Safety Index 2014:

“I am aware that many of our members, and some other road safety and sustainable travel organisations, are concerned at the recent update of the AXA Local Road Safety Index and the tone of the publicity with regard to the perceptions and actual levels of safety or danger around schools.

“In particular they have expressed concern that the data provided is not correlated to collisions involving children, or during school journey times, and could be unduly alarming to parents and school staff.

“The data used is provided to AXA by Road Safety Analysis. In view of the issues raised, I have contacted both RSA and AXA to discuss this with them.

“As a result, I will be meeting with AXA in the New Year to explain our concerns in more detail and to explore with them how Road Safety GB and AXA might work constructively together to achieve our shared aim to promote safer use of our roads.

“I will keep you informed as these discussions progress.”

Honor Byford, chair, Road Safety GB
