Competition winners convey drink-drive message

     

 

Gwent’s annual drink drive Christmas poster competition was considered a resounding success, attracting a total of 768 entries.

The competition winners – Chloe Mae Newton (junior section) and Emily Greenway (senior section) – received their prizes at a presentation at County Hall Cwmbran. James Fussell, mayor of Caerphilly, Peter Clark, chairman of Monmouthshire County Council, Margaret Cornelius, deputy mayor of Newport, and Mick Giannasi, Gwent chief constable, presented the prizes and certificates.

Mick Giannasi said: “This event is very important and one that we fully support. It shows that young people are aware of the danger and are doing their best to send out this important message that drinking and driving is both foolish and dangerous.”

Penny Thorpe, principal RSO for Capita Symonds Road Safety Team, said: “The depth of understanding of the consequences of drinking and driving shown by the pupils in their posters is outstanding. Thanks must go to their teachers who have helped focus their efforts.”
