A series of child road safety resources have been made available free to download as part of the UK campaign to support Global Road Safety Week (GRSW) 2015.

The focus for GRSW (4-10 May 2015) is child road safety. Using the slogan #SaveKidsLives, the UN Road Safety Collaboration campaign is seeking to highlight the plight of children on the world’s roads, and generate action to better ensure their safety.

Here in the UK, a comprehensive programme of activities and resources is being prepared by an alliance of road safety organisations headed by Road Safety GB. The UK campaign was officially launched last week at the RoSPA Road Safety Conference, where delegates posed for a ‘safie’ to show their support for #SaveKidsLives.

The child road safety resources comprise:

• A fold out education activity sheet which is ideal for use by younger children in the UK, or to be sent to schools or community groups in other territories.

• An A2 world map of road risk, ideal for display in UK schools. There are two age variants – one for primary aged pupils and the other for senior school age.

• And a series of country profiler cards to enable pupils in UK schools to look at road risk in a wider geographical context. The cards are currently available in English but will shortly also be available in other languages.

The resources have been created as part of the Safer Steps project and made available to support Global Road Safety Week courtesy of the Safer Roads (Berkshire) partnership.
