A JRSO scheme launched last year by Medway Council now has 14 schools and 40 JRSOs in place, with another three schools expected to join in September.

Cllr Phil Filmer said: “The aim of the JRSO scheme is to empower children to highlight road safety issues within their school by raising awareness among other pupils, teachers and the community, while maintaining links with their road safety officer.”

A JRSO Roman soldier mascot was unveiled at an event to celebrate the scheme’s success. The Roman soldier links road safety to history, identifying similarities and differences between ancient and modern roads including types of traffic and hazards.
