The latest recruits to South Lanarkshire’s army of junior road safety officers (JRSOs) have been learning about what the role entails.
The pupils took part in an information session at Chatelherault Country Park recently, organised by South Lanarkshire’s road safety team. The session introduced the JRSOs to their role and helped provide them with the skills that they require.
Primary six or seven pupils are either interviewed or specially selected to hold the post of JRSO at their school for a period of one or two years. 114 South Lanarkshire schools now have JRSOs and 93 of these represented on the day.
The scheme links to the ‘Curriculum for Excellence’ for schools and JRSO duties include maintaining a notice board, running competitions, highlighting road safety campaigns and speaking at assembly.
