Kwik Fit offers support for road safety teams

Road Safety GB and Kwik Fit have formed an alliance under which Kwik Fit will offer free support to road safety teams wishing to promote in their local area the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and safety checks.

Under the new partnership, Kwik Fit will provide a series of mobile and in-workshop events for different road user groups.

Jane Davis, from Kwik Fit Marketing, said: “We are offering to support all road safety teams across the country, to show drivers how to prepare for a car journey and carry out tyre and other basic car care checks – the things that drivers should be doing routinely.

“We will ensure that in these sessions the road safety message is as strong as possible, as we are very passionate about people being safe on the roads and ensuring that they have a good knowledge of basic car care.

“We have recently been involved in lots of different road safety activities across the UK and have the facilities to offer some of these elements as support packages to road safety teams for absolutely no charge whatsoever.”

The mobile events being offered by Kwik Fit include a practical road safety session suitable for delivery either in educational establishments or at supermarkets or other such locations, which covers car care basics and can include hands on experience to let people have a go themselves.

Sessions that can be delivered at a local Kwik Fit Centre include ladies and young driver evenings. The ladies’ evening is designed to improve basic car care knowledge and give attendees confidence when visiting a garage, while the young driver evenings are aimed at people who are learning, or have just started, to drive.

Jane Davis added: “We have found that although you are taught the basics for your driving test, you are never actually taught them in detail or practically. Our young driver evening ensures that learner drivers are fully prepared.”

It might be worthwhile for Kwik Fit and all other tyre supliers to promote their free check service for tracking and toe in. I believe that as we get softer, less aggressive tarmac on our roads and the quality of tyres improves we are likely to be able to drive more miles on our tyres. This will not do the tyre industry much good if they are selling fewer tyres. However if after having at least two new fronts on they could check the tracking otherwise within the first 12 months those new tyres could be illegal, having worn on the inside or outside edge. I urge everyone to get the tracking done, then tyres will last a lot longer and money would be saved and contact with the road would make it safer.
