‘Lollipop’ campaigner to appear on ‘One Show’

Helen Toft, the Dorset mum behind the ‘Save Our Lollipop People’ campaign, is to appear on tonight’s ‘The One Show’ on BBC1 at 7.00pm (3/10/11).

The campaign was launched towards the end of 2010 in response to Dorset County Council’s proposal to axe its entire school crossing patrol (SCP) service to save £200,000.

The campaign’s success in collecting more than 10,000 signatures and organising a march through Dorset has persuaded the council to review its decision and consider alternative ways of funding the SCP service, and an announcement is expected this month.

Ms Toft’s campaign is now asking people to sign a new petition urging the Government to intervene to prevent local authorities from cutting their SCP service. If the petition receives more than 100,000 signatures, the matter will be debated in the House of Commons.
