LV= launches Streetwise roadshow

The insurance, investment and pensions group LV= has launched the Streetwise safety roadshow to help educate children about safety in the home, and on the roads and railways.

The LV= Streetwise safety roadshow will visit more than 17 locations across the UK this summer, offering children a free opportunity to become ‘danger detectives’ by taking part in an interactive safety education experience.

The roadshow has been designed to educate children aged 5-11 years about the risk of accidents and make them more aware of everyday dangers.

The roadshow experience takes place in a converted ‘bendy bus’, which includes a life-size kitchen, a lounge area, and road and rail hazard simulators. Children are guided through the bus by safety experts who explain the potential hazardous situations to them.

Road Safety GB is supporting the roadshow, and Alan Kennedy, chairman, said: “The LV= Streetwise tour is a fantastic initiative that will provide important road safety advice to children.

“Although the number of child pedestrians killed or seriously injured in the UK has fallen by 47% since 2001, 34 child pedestrians aged 11 and under were killed in road incidents in 2008 – a figure that is still too high.

“Engaging campaigns like Streetwise will help to bring the number of child casualties down even further and we give it our full support.”

LV= has a long-running commitment to child safety as a founding sponsor of the LV= Streetwise safety centre in Bournemouth, a fully interactive safety ‘village’ which currently offers free safety education to over 13,000 children a year.
