Driver reaction time – such as the time taken to apply the brakes or steer away from danger – are significantly slower when driving while using a hands-free mobile phone, than when driving while over the legal alcohol limit (Roadsafe newsletter, March 2009).
The findings come from a study by Transport Research Laboratory for the car insurer Direct Line.
