North east ADIs first to benefit from new CCL course

Eight driving instructors from Durham and Darlington have become the first to benefit from a new course developed by Road Safety GB to help ADIs better understand the principles of ‘client centred learning’ (CCL).

Road Safety GB developed the two-day course in partnership with eDriving Solutions, in order to help driving instructors develop CCL skills.

Tony Flory, driver training services officer from Durham County Council’s road safety team, said that feedback from the ADIs who attended the course was overwhelmingly positive. He said the instructors were particularly pleased to learn how the new Standards Check for ADIs – introduced by the DVSA earlier this year – will be conducted, and said that the prospect of having the check seemed less daunting following the CCL course.

Mr Flory also said that the ADIs also felt that client centred learning was “definitely the way forward to improve long term road casualty reduction, especially amongst recently qualified drivers”.

Paul Watson, Durham County Council’s road safety manager, said: “We are delighted to be one of the first centres to receive approval by Road Safety GB to deliver these ground breaking client centred learning courses. Our next courses are planned for 29 and 30 September and we look forward to receiving more positive feedback.”

Road Safety GB is running a two-day CCL ‘train the trainer’ course for road safety teams, in Buckinghamshire on 15-16 October. For more details, or to register to attend, contact Dave Parkin at eDriving Solutions.
