Park and ride…on a walking bus

Children at a Leicestershire school now have their own version of a park and ride service, thanks to a group of parent volunteers.

Kibworth Primary School’s walking bus made its first journey on Monday morning (22 March).

A walking bus is an organised group of children who meet at a set point and walk to school together, usually with two or more volunteers, known as ‘drivers’ and ‘conductors’.

The project is being run by parents including local business student Sam Adams, who has used the walking bus as a case study while studying for her Certificate in School Business Management.

Lesley Pendleton, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “This is a great way to get children walking to school.

“A walking bus is not only a healthier way to make the journey but  it also means there are less cars arriving at the school gate.”
