Practitioners to outline current interventions at YDF

The line-up for the ‘Practitioners in action’ session of Young Driver Focus 2018 is now complete.

The session will feature a series of short presentations by practitioners outlining current interventions, campaigns or initiatives they are deploying in their local areas. The four presentations will then be followed by a panel discussion.

Now in its fifth year, Young Driver Focus examines current and future thinking with regard to the issue of reducing crashes and casualties among young drivers and their passengers.

Young Driver Focus is jointly organised by FirstCar, Road Safety GB and the RAC Foundation, in association with the young driver insurer ingenie, who has been the event’s headline sponsor for the past four years.

The 2018 edition of Young Driver Focus is once again being held at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall on 25 April 2018.

Among the speakers in the ‘Practitioners in action’ session is Claire Stone, a road safety technician with Essex Highways. Claire will present the #mysmallchange initiative, which facilitates the public sharing of personal pledges relating to one of 10 specific road behaviours, via a web app.

Lyn Morris, road safety officer, Carmarthenshire County Council, will outline Carmarthenshire’s long-standing Young Driver Programme. The programme is modular – each module is ‘stand-alone’ but together they comprise a comprehensive driver, car-owner and passenger education course.

Rob Tillier, founder and director of Accelerate Driver Training, will discuss the accelerate Safer Young Driver Workshop which covers crash causation, consequences, avoidance tactics, barriers to avoidance and behavioural plans.

Finally, James Evans, founder of FirstCar, will present the new FirstCar Academy (FCA) – a free-to-use e-learning platform designed for 15-21-year-old pre-learners, learners and newly qualified drivers.

Other confirmed speakers on the 2018 Young Driver Focus agenda include the transport minister Jesse Norman MP, who will deliver the opening keynote address.
