Road Safety GB has announced its intention to support Global Road Safety Week 2015 by organising a series of events and initiatives in the UK.
The third UN Global Road Safety Week (4-10 May 2015) will focus on children, using the strapline ‘Save kids’ lives’. The Week will be used to draw attention to the “urgent need to better protect children and generate action on the measures needed to do so”. It will also give added impetus to the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 and its goal of saving five million lives.
Global Road Safety Week is being organised by the UN Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC) and plans will be further developed at the next UNRSC meeting in Geneva on 6-7 October 2014.
Alan Kennedy, Road Safety GB business and operations manager, said: “We are keen to support Global Road Safety Week and to maximize the opportunity to focus on the challenge of making children safer on the roads, both here in the UK and across the globe.
“We will wait to see the outcomes from the meeting in Geneva next month before further developing our ideas. However, at this stage we envisage two strands to our campaign; to share the world-leading road safety education, training and publicity expertise that exists in this country with colleagues in other parts of the world; and to develop a child-focused intervention, campaign or activity that road safety teams can utilise in their local area.
“We intend to have our plans ready to be unveiled at the National Road Safety Conference in November.”
