Six youth groups across North East England are being challenged in a battle of the road safety videos under an initiative by Road Respect.
Road Respect is long-standing umbrella road safety campaign in North East England which is delivered by the Northumbria Safer Roads Initiative (NSRI).
As part of its latest initiative, ‘Youth Focus Events’, Road Respect is hosting interactive workshops and then tasking each group with creating a video.
Road Respect visits each group twice, first to introduce the idea and show previous campaign video footage. On the second visit the event team is joined by a local film company and the groups create their video in a ‘hands on atmosphere’, using professional camera equipment.
The entries will be uploaded to Road Respect’s Facebook page and the one with the most views will be crowned the winner – with free football tickets as prizes for members of the winning group.
Danae Abadom, Road Respect events team, said: “The workshops allow for an in-depth discussion on road safety issues. It’s really important for the groups to take ownership of messages by creating their own content. It’s vital that these issues are discussed in a way that they interact with via a medium they understand and will engage with.”
The workshops are being held during August and September with youth groups based in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North Shields, South Shields and Northumberland.
