Su Ormes, Public Health Programme Manager, Medway Council
Workshop: Engaging with Public Health
Su Ormes led the road safety team at Medway Council for 12 years, delivering a wide programme of education, training and publicity interventions. She also enjoyed a spell on the management team at Road Safety GB.
When the Health & Social Care Act came into force in 2012, Su formed an alliance between Medway’s road safety and public health teams, and was invited to become a public health ‘champion’. This initiative led to an active Collaborative Working Agreement between road safety and public health.
Su will use this interactive workshop to challenge participants to think about what they’d like to achieve by engaging with public health, what the barriers to this are, and how those barriers can be overcome.
The workshop will give road safety officers an overview of the public health function in local government, and equip them with the language and a set of tools to engage with their colleagues in public health from a road safety perspective.
