Sustainable Travel Officer

North Yorkshire County Council
Salary £29,854 to £32,164
Closing Date 3rd April 2017

With the increase in house building and other developments in North Yorkshire together with the need to encourage and enable more people to travel actively and independently to support Public Health and reduce sedentary conditions, North Yorkshire County Council is seeking to recruit a Sustainable Travel Officer. This newly established permanent post will be based in County Hall, Northallerton, but will also require travel throughout the county.

The role requires the effective management of budgets up to £500k and undertaking procurement and commissioning exercises and managing contracts as well as planning efficient and cost effective in-house service delivery. Seeking and securing funding to support the service is an essential part of the role.

The council has recently been awarded government grants for specific sustainable travel programmes focussed in Skipton, Harrogate and Scarborough, in which the Sustainable Travel Officer will play a leading and project management role. Experience of delivering and managing similar programmes will be advantageous.

Partnership working with private and commercial organisations, other council directorates, neighbouring authorities and other public agencies are core to this role. In particular, an understanding of Public Health priorities and methodology is required as much of the team’s active travel work is jointly funded with Public Health.

We are seeking an energetic, competent and confident individual who will win the confidence of their colleagues and partners and have the vision and capability to take the service forward.
