The cost of fuel (51%) and congestion (41%) are the two main reasons why around a third of drivers no longer enjoy driving, according to a new survey by the IAM.
In the survey of more than 2,000 drivers, 28% said they are no longer excited by driving and 26% say they have less leisure time.
Conversely, 39% of respondents said they still consider driving and riding as a hobby and one third said they still “go out for a spin”.
78% of respondents said they would usually drive when out with their partner, while half said they don’t always feel relaxed when their partner is in the passenger seat.
In terms of what makes them feel most nervous, more than 60% of respondents said the behaviour of other drivers, followed by bad weather conditions and driving near to lorries.
Driving generally is a necessary evil: the less we do if it the better. This is therefore good news.
