This was a priority for the department following a consultation on cycle safety where it was identified as a key action to enable more people to cycle and walk safely. A consultation on the proposed changes generated the biggest response rate the Department has ever known, and Sharon will speak about the feedback and next steps.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Sharon Goodsell, Head of Vulnerable Road User Safety, Department for Transport<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-130 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/roadsafetygb.org.uk\/cyclingevent\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Sharon-Goodsell-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/roadsafetygb.org.uk\/cyclingevent\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Sharon-Goodsell-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/roadsafetygb.org.uk\/cyclingevent\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Sharon-Goodsell.jpg 481w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>Sharon Goodsell joined the Department for Transport in 1996, initially working in corporate support roles managing finance, development and training, and resources. She moved into a transport policy role in 2008, initially working on stations policy.<\/p>\n<p>She has since led a number of policy teams across the department ranging from cycling, to sustainable travel, to aviation.<\/p>\n<p>Sharon currently heads up the Vulnerable Road User Safety Team focussing on road safety for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and older road users.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-128-0-2\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell panel-grid-cell-empty\" ><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sharon Goodsell will speak about a review of The Highway Code to improve safety for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders.
