Welcoming Roads - a development of Vision Zero
Vision Zero is well established and widely accepted as the best approach to road safety. Indeed, it is often claimed that it is the only morally acceptable goal for the road safety community to have.
In a world where progress toward that goal is broadly accepted to have stalled over the last decade, is there a need to re-evaluate aspects of the ideology or delivery of the Safe Systems approach? To invoke a famous quote: will doing more of the same things produce different results?
Colin Brown makes the case for Welcoming Roads, a development of Vision Zero that dares to deal with these questions.

Colin Brown is Director of Campaigns and Political Engagement for the Motorcycle Action Group.
Riding motorcycles since the late 1980s, Colin has taken all the advanced training available and been immersed in motorcycle road safety work for many years, as well as having first-hand experience of how much pain is involved in getting it wrong.
“The milk float escaped without injury, sadly, I did not”.
Describing himself as an observer and critic rather than a practitioner of road safety, Colin strives to bring a creative approach to the difficult questions.
