More than 200 people are heading to Chester today for what will be one of the largest road safety events to be held in the UK this year.

The 2011 Road Safety GB National Conference and Exhibition is being held 15-16 November at The Queen Hotel, Chester. The event is being hosted by Road Safety GB North West Region and sponsored by Colas, Hermes and Siemens. The theme is ‘Road Safety in Changing Times’.

Around 220 people will attend the event, either as delegates, exhibitors or speakers. 22 companies will participate in the exhibition that runs alongside the conference sessions. The exhibition opens at 12.00pm today (15 November) with the conference commencing at 1.30pm. An optional theatre in education performance will follow the conference at 5.00pm, with the conference dinner taking place this evening.

Day two (16 November) comprises a full conference programme and exhibition during refreshment breaks, with the event closing at around 3.30pm.

The 2011 Lynda Chalker Award will also be presented at the conference. The award is presented by Road Safety GB to an individual or organisation who has contributed significantly to road safety in the United Kingdom. The Prince Michael International Road Safety Award that has been bestowed on the Road Safety Knowledge Centre will also be presented at the conference.
