Are you eating a crash diet?

Mayo County Council in Ireland has launched a new campaign to warn drivers about the potential dangers of eating while driving, describing it as ‘super-dangerous’.

Noel Gibbons, Mayo’s RSO, has developed ‘Stay Focused’ in the wake of an AA report which reveals that 73% of drivers admit to eating or drinking at least occasionally while behind the wheel.

Mayo CC says that eating while driving is one of the most common causes of driver distraction and as dangerous as texting while driving.

Noel Gibbons said: “Driver distraction has a negative impact on road safety and so we are asking all motorists to focus on their driving.

“Driving is a skill that requires your full attention in order to safely control your vehicle and respond to events happening on the roads around you.

“Driving involves constant and complex co-ordination between your mind and body. Events or things that prevent you from operating your car safely are distractions.”
