BikeWeek 2016 got underway on 11 June, with events scheduled to take place across the UK in a bid to show how cycling can easily be part of everyday life.
With more than half a million people set to join in events, Bike Week is the UK’s biggest nationwide cycling event.
The annual event aims to get people ‘to give cycling a go’ by demonstrating its social, health and environmental benefits.
Bike Week 2016 has a special focus on encouraging people to cycle to work. Many people are expected to participate in ‘buddy’ rides with colleagues to scope out the easiest route to their place of work, or to take part in workplace challenges.
A number of resources are available to download, including check-lists, digital assets and fundraising packs.
One of the council’s taking a lead is the London Borough of Camden. As part of the week, Camden’s road safety team is hosting a range of events including a number of Dr Bike maintenance sessions and a cyclists’ breakfast.
On Sunday 19 June, the 10th ‘Ride All Around Camden’ will take place, allowing residents to take part in a free, fun and easy-paced bike ride to celebrate the Borough’s ‘many fascinating places’.
The public are also being encouraged to ‘make the pledge‘ to attend one of the organised events during the week.
A full list of all events can be found on the Bike Week website.
