BikeSafe 2016 to be held at Rockingham Circuit

BikeSafe 2016, described as ‘a family road safety day with a difference’, will this year take place on 16 July.

Organised by BikeSafe in partnership with Northamptonshire Highways, the 2016 event will take place at the Rockingham Circuit in Corby.

It will include the opportunity to participate in an assessed ride with a police advanced motorcyclist, who will advise on road riding techniques before returning to the circuit for a safety briefing.

The event, which has the support of the Motorcycle Industry Association (MIA), will also feature a number of other attractions including stunt displays, the opportunity to ride a motorcycle for the first time, and a guest appearance by John Reynolds, British Superbike Champion.

BikeSafe is a police-led motorcycle safety initiative run by most forces across the UK, in a bid to reduce the number of bikers killed and injured on the roads.

The scheme’s aim is to encourage post test training and improve rider attitude and behaviour. It runs under the premise that: ‘the more training you get, the better and safer the rider you become’.

Ian Marriott, Avon and Somerset Police said: “I am delighted to have fantastic support from Northamptonshire Highways, manufacturers and the Motorcycle Industry Association at the national BikeSafe show.

“It shows the support the BikeSafe scheme has from the motorcycle industry and how highly thought of it is.”

John Spencer, Northamptonshire Highways road safety team leader, said: “The road safety team in Northamptonshire is committed to improving safety for all road users but also looking at encouraging different ways to travel.

“In 2015 we carried out a motorcycle survey to reaffirm why people were using motorbikes, but also why they were not.

“Bringing Bikesafe 2016 to Northamptonshire is a significant part of our sustainable transport agenda and we are thrilled Rockingham is hosting, what we hope, will be the biggest and best event ever.”

You can also have a go at moto gymkhana at the event. John McGuiness had a go last year. Motogymkhana is the fastest growing and newest grass roots bike sport in the UK. We have been supporters of Bikesafe and appeared at the national bikes safe show for the last 4 years.

You can also see the inter police forces moto gymkhana challenge at this event. The assessed rides include track time on the famous Rockingham circuit if you choose to have it and tuition from the California superbike school, you are guaranteed a great time. The whole event has gone from strength to strength and is a great day out. It has been our privilege to be involved with this great event.

This looks a fantastic event and the picture immediately grabs your attention. I hope the day and publicity goes really well winning over the biking general public.
