Businesses benefit from winter driving workshops

Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) has been offering winter driving workshops to businesses across the county, and to some of the council’s own employees.

The courses are run within businesses and presented by a former police officer with extensive experience of driving in all weathers and on motorcycles.

Helpful tips and advice include what to do when driving in weather conditions such as snow, ice, fog, and floodwater. The presentation also covers journey planning and distractions, as well as discussing some of the technological features found in modern vehicles and how to apply them correctly.

The course has also been made available to some of Buckinghamshire County Council’s front line staff, including those who have to take to the roads to ensure the needs of vulnerable people are met. A group of home carers went through the workshop to be reminded of what to do in challenging driving conditions and preparations they can make to ensure their safety.

Peter Hardy, Buckinghamshire County Council cabinet member for planning and transport, said: “The workshops are a great chance to prepare for winter road conditions. I myself attended one last winter and found it extremely informative and very useful indeed.”

Participants are also each given the latest copy of the Highway Code and a high visibility jacket to store in their vehicle in case of an emergency.
