Call to arms as Project EDWARD countdown begins

Road Safety GB members are being encouraged to support the 2017 edition of Project Edward by helping to organise a get-together of local road safety teams and partners as part of a nationwide tour taking place later this month.

Organised by TISPOL, this year’s ‘European Day Without A Road Death’ (Project EDWARD) takes place on 21 September and looks to encourage drivers, riders and pedestrians to spare an extra thought for their safety.

In an effort to promote Project EDWARD 2017, TISPOL’s James Luckhurst will be touring the country to record video messages of support that will be featured on the event website.

Road Safety GB is encouraging road safety teams and other stakeholders to support the initiative by arranging a brief get-together of local teams, partners, elected members and others at the locations shown in the proposed schedule (right).

James will give a brief presentation about Project Edward over coffee and biscuits, after which those in attendance can record a brief message of support, using TISPOL’s mobile video booth.

Anyone willing and able to host one of the sessions (ideally at a venue close to a motorway/trunk road for quick and easy access) should contact James Luckhurst via email.

Project EDWARD 2017 – which yesterday (12 June) began a 100-day countdown – is also designed to draw attention to the 70 deaths that occur on average each day on Europe’s roads.

To mark the start of the countdown, which included a successful Thunderclap social media campaign, TISPOL has published a new video (featured top) which gives an overview of the event.
