Child Safety Week provides platform for road safety teams

The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) is encouraging road safety teams to use Child Safety Week as an opportunity to engage with children and parents about the importance of road safety.

The 2017 campaign gets underway today (5-11 June) using the tagline ‘Safe Children – Sharing is Caring’, with CAPT saying ‘we all have a part to play when it comes to keeping children safe’.

CAPT is hoping that this year’s Child Safety Week, which is co-sponsored by the THINK! campaign and supported by Road Safety GB, can build on the 2016 edition when activities reached more than 450,000 parents, carers, children and young people nationwide.

Laura Harris, senior campaigns officer at CAPT, said: “We all have a part to play when it comes to keeping children safe, and nothing has more impact than the voice of experience.

“We will be asking families, friends, communities and professionals to show they care by sharing their experience and knowledge – not just about the horrors of accidents, but also the really practical, simple things they do to prevent them.

“The theme offers an additional platform to demonstrate the good work already being done by road safety teams across the UK to engage families in a dialogue about staying safe around roads by sharing their experience, and showing they care.”

CAPT says the ‘sharing is caring’ theme is ideal for encouraging drivers to pay particular attention to speed limits around schools and built up areas where children may be playing outside.

Road safety teams wanting to participate in Child Safety Week can sign up to receive a host of free resources via the Child Safety Week website.
