Primary school children are being invited to design bright clothing for winter nights in Wiltshire Council’s ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’ competition.
Judith Billingham, Wiltshire’s road safety manager, said: “This competition is a fun way to remind children that wearing something reflective, bright or fluorescent is important now the clocks have gone back and daylight hours have shortened.
“It is more important than ever to emphasise personal safety to parents, schools and children when walking, scootering and cycling in the winter months.”
Each year Wiltshire’s road safety team reaches 15,000 children with its Walk Safe child pedestrian education programme and a further 5,000 through Bikeability cycle training. The Be Bright, Be Seen competition will reach more than 28,000 children if all schools participate.
