12.00 | 17 October 2012 |

Richard Hall, Road Safety GB’s specialist for SCP services, will briefly outline the new Assessment of Walked Routes to School Guidelines to delegates attending the National Road Safety Conference 2012.

The conference is being hosted by Road Safety GB London Region at the Britannia International Hotel, Canary Wharf, 14-15 November. More than 200 people have now registered to attend the event which is co-sponsored by Colas, RedSpeed International, Alcolock UK and AA DriveTech.

Richard’s day job is road safety team manager for North Lincolnshire Council. He has worked in road safety for 28 years, firstly with Humberside County Council before joining North Lincolnshire Council as road safety team leader in 1996.

He became a Road Safety GB school crossing patrol advisor in 2007 and in 2010 Road Safety GB asked him to lead a small group in updating the Assessment of Walked Routes to School Guidelines.

In his presentation, Richard will explain why the guidelines were updated, how they differ from the usual risk assessments, how RSOs can use them and how they fit into an authority’s schools transport policy. His presentation will form part of the ‘Topical Topics’ session on the final afternoon of the conference.

The cost of attending the two-day conference starts at £85 plus VAT per day for day delegates and £295 plus VAT for residential delegates (Road Safety GB members). At the time of writing there are still places available at the conference, but accommodation for residential delegates is now in short supply.
