Conference will seek school transport solutions

A new three-day conference that focuses on “positive solutions for the school transport industry” will be held in Buckinghamshire next month.

Interchangeability (15-18 June) is described as an “international conference for transport professionals which will bring together those involved in delivering safe and effective school transport systems from around the world, enabling the sharing of good practice, ideas and innovative solutions”.

The conference will be held at Latimer Place, Chesham in Buckinghamshire.

The event is intended for anyone involved with the safe transport of children – transport managers, school planners, road safety officers, travel trainers, as well as senior local government staff, policy makers and budget holders looking for new ways of working.

The programme includes workshops and sessions relevant to those who are new to school transport, as well as providing updates, unique ideas and inspiration for experienced practitioners.

Day three will comprise two “technical tours” which will provide the opportunity to see school transport and partnership initiatives in practice in two local authority areas.

The event is structured so that delegates can attend any or all of the plenary sessions, workshops, technical tours or networking.  Day rates are from £180, with a 15% discount for Road Safety GB members.

Sessions that may be of particular interest to road safety professionals include: in-vehicle and road safety education workshops led by TRL Child Safety Centre; workshops with Surrey County Council on road safety initiatives; Good Egg Safety; workshops on effective engagement with young people; and media training with Charlotte Hume, former ITN editor and now a specialist media trainer.

Visit the event website for more information or contact Sian Thornthwaite on 01629 824112.
