Croydon’s latest road safety recruit is a four-legged canine junior road safety officer called Hamish McFee.
Hamish has his own column, ‘Paws for thought’, in a JRSO newsletter distributed to all primary schools in Croydon.
In the most recent issue, pupils were asked to design a new hi-viz jacket to help drivers see Hamish. The competition attracted more than 500 entries from all over the borough.
The winner was Ijeoma Abara, who attends Winterbourne Girls School in Thornton Heath. Ijeoma and the two runners up had their designs made into jackets for Hamish. They all received £20 book tokens and the winning school also won a free road safety show performed by the Smart Brothers.
