The Road Safety GB Academy has published dates and venues for the next three Road Safety Foundation courses.
The Road Safety Practitioner Foundation Course is designed to provide participants with an overview of the knowledge and skills they need to effectively and safely deliver a road safety educational intervention.
The course provides participants with an overview of the whole process from identifying a road safety issue, to developing an intervention and through to evaluation. It is ideal for someone who has just entered the road safety profession, or is taking on a road safety role as a secondary task.
Following two successful pilots (see photo), the Road Safety GB Academy has finalised arrangements for the next three courses. The courses are being organised in each Road Safety GB region, to ensure that travel costs are kept to a minimum and to reduce the need for overnight accommodation, which is not included in the course fee. Each course can accept a maximum of 12 delegates.
The fee is £350 plus VAT for Academy members and £500 plus VAT for non-members.
The South East Region course is being held at Medway Council offices on 2-3 December 2013 (part one) and 13-14 January 2014 (part two).
The South West Region course is being held at the Devon Travel Academy, Exeter on 21-22 January 2014 (part one) and 4-5 March 2014 (part two).
And the East Midlands Region course is being held at the Ian Marlow Training Centre in Leicester on 11-12 February 2014 (part one) and 18-19 March 2014 (part two).
For more information or to book a place on one of the courses contact Cheryl Evans, head of training at the Academy.
Footnote: The Road Safety GB Academy is the professional development arm of Road Safety GB. It was formed in April 2013 as a result of the merger between Road Safety GB and IRSO (Institute of Road Safety Officers). The Academy runs a monthly programme of online seminars which are available free of charge to members.
Complimentary membership of The Academy is offered to road safety practitioners employed by local authority members of Road Safety GB – up to a maximum of 10 places per authority. Applications are also welcomed from practitioners working in the private and voluntary sector, subject to meeting the membership criteria. The annual cost of membership for these practitioners is £35.
For more details or to apply for membership, visit The Academy website or contact Emma Norton, head of membership.
