Road safety teams and other stakeholders are reminded that the deadline for nominations for the 2015 Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards is 5 August.

Organised and managed by RoadSafe, the Prince Michael Awards recognise achievements and innovation to improve road safety, and give public recognition to outstanding national and international road safety initiatives. Nominations are considered under five main categories based on the five pillars of the Global Plan for a Decade of Action.

In 2014, the hazard perception section of the driving theory test was named winner of the Prince’s Premier Award at the awards ceremony in London on 9 December (pic above).

Other recipients included: The Yorkshire and Humber Road Safety Group for its work to improve cycle safety in the region; the Engage North West Programme for its role in helping learner drivers to develop coping strategies for a number of key factors associated with collisions involving young drivers; Safer Roads Berkshire for its work over three years in pioneering new approach to road safety; and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s road safety team for its innovative work with primary and secondary schools in Cheshire East.

The awards are open to road safey teams, individuals, businesses and other organisations, and the nomination process is relatively straightforward. Nominations must be clear and concise (no more than 1,500 words) and presented against the judging criteria shown on the nomination form. Full details of how to nominate and other information can be found on the Prince Michael Awards’ website.
