Two experienced professionals from Warwickshire’s road safety team will outline initiatives being taken to ensure that a service is maintained despite the imminent withdrawl of virtually all revenue funding for road safety ETP work.
Their joint presentation will be delivered at the 2015 National Road Safety Conference* in Nottingham later this year.
With more than 25 years’ experience in the road safety profession, Philippa Young (pic opposite) has managed both safety engineering and road safety ETP teams, as well as school travel planning teams. She was appointed Warwickshire’s group manager in 2013.
Philippa led on the Strategic Commissioning Review of Highway Services across Warwickshire when the local authority was considering the commissioning of all services. Her review advocated the continued internal delivery of services alongside the development of internal business models, and the council is currently in its second year of a four-year programme to deliver £93m savings.
Jo Edwards (pic below) also has more than 25 years’ experience in road safety. Her latest role has involved approaching the private sector to seek funding for the newly formed ‘Warwickshire Road Safety Club’ which was developed as a result of potential budget cuts to the road safety education service currently provided free for schools.
Jo’s passion and commitment for road safety were crucial factors in achieving such positive outcomes. As well as attracting sponsorship from the private sector, Jo also encouraged schools to fund their membership of the club.
In 2013 Warwickshire County Council announced that it would be removing virtually all the revenue funding for Road Safety ETP work from May 2016. This joint presentation will outline initiatives the team has taken to ensure that the service is maintained, including appointing a business development officer and charging for resources and services.
