A campaign has been launched across the UK and the rest of Europe to reduce the cost of alcohol-related road deaths (RoadSafe News).

‘Safe and Sober’, which specifically targets the commercial transport sector, has been launched by the Brussels-based European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) and is supported by Volvo Group.

The campaign’s objective is to raise awareness among policy makers, the private sector and key opinion leaders of the need for a systemic approach to reducing alcohol misuse in road transport.

ETSC estimates the annual costs associated with drink driving to be €12bn, leading it to conclude that ‘tackling drink-driving is economically vital’.
