Free child car seat checks will return across Hampshire this year, with the first ‘Fit it Right’ event taking place at the Winchester Fire Station Road Safety Centre on 28 March.
‘JK’, Heart FM breakfast show presenter and dad, is supporting the campaign. He said: “As a parent you’re constantly learning about safety. It affects every decision – right down to how you travel with your child around town. Getting the right advice is critical in ensuring your child is travelling as safely as they can.
“I’m recommending to anyone who drives with babies or young children in their vehicles to stop at one of Hampshire’s car seat checks and get the experts to give your seats the once over.
“I found the car seat sizes to be confusing. Some people talk about Group 0 and Group 0+ car seats, while others refer to stage one or two. Now I realise it’s simpler and safer if you think in terms of choosing the right seat for your child’s weight and height.”
Karen Dockree, Hampshire’s assistant services manager road safety, said: “Choosing the right car seat for your baby’s age and weight is very important. You must also make sure that it is properly installed. If a car seat doesn’t seem to fit your car perfectly, or if it seems difficult to fasten in place, do not buy it.”
